Chole bhature is a food dish popular in the Northern areas of the Indian subcontinent. It is a combination of chana masala and bhatura/puri, a fried bread made from maida. Although it is known as a typical Punjabi dish, there are varied claims around the origin of dish.
Ingredients:
- Serves 3-4
- Kabuli Chanas (Chick peas) – 1cup
- Butter -2 to 3tsp
- Ginger paste – 1tsp
- Onion (medium)-1 finely chopped
- Tomato (medium) -2 finely chopped
- Garam masala – 1tsp
- Coriander – Cumin powder – 2tsp
- Chilly powder – 1tsp or accdly
- Coriander leaves for garnishing
- Salt
Method:
- Soak chick peas overnight or for at least 8 to 10 hrs. Take some butter in a cooker. Add the chopped onions, ginger paste & garlic paste & saute till onions turn transparent. Add the chopped tomatoes. Stir it for some time.
- Add the turmeric powder, coriander – cumin powder, salt, garam masala, chilly powder & mix well. Add the kabuli chana & add water such that all the ingredients are properly soaked. Pressure cook till the chick peas is cooked.
- Garnish it with chopped coriander leaves.
Note: Use butter instead of oil for better taste.
